What happened
Within weeks of Samsung permitting employees to use ChatGPT for productivity, at least three separate incidents occurred where engineers uploaded confidential source code, internal meeting notes, and semiconductor equipment data to OpenAI's servers. Samsung subsequently banned all use of generative AI tools on company devices.
Root cause
No data classification controls preventing confidential or restricted information from being submitted to third-party AI services, and no gateway layer to intercept outbound data.

Absence of an AI gateway and data classification enforcement layer; employees had unrestricted access to external LLMs without any DLP controls or approved-model allowlist.
